Nursing Job Interview
Tips for Success!

Looking for Job Interview Skills tips?
After preparing your comprehensive and competitive resume it's time for a face-to-face conversation with the hiring managers. The following interview tips are proven, successful and practical job interview tips that you need to know. So take them by heart!

Day Before the Job Interview

1. PLAN for the interview. Research about the employer and the position you’re applying for.

2. Bring a list of questions that you want to ask them (they will think you’re smart).

3. Find the address and as much as you can drop by - so that you will have an idea regarding parking place and amount of time you need to drive. (you don’t want to be late remember)

4. Practice in front of a mirror or with a friend - some possible questions employers might ask you (see list below).

5.Sleep on time, Pray and visualize your hired.

"Whether you think you CAN or you can't, You're RIGHT!"
-- Henry Ford --

Day of the Job Interview

1. Don’t skip your breakfast!(you might faint with too much anxiety – you don’t want that).

2. Dress up appropriately and professionally.

3. Be ON time – when I say on time means exactly on the dot. Not early - not late. When you come early – they might think you don’t respect their time. If you’re late it’s not good either but if you are voluntarily provide an explanation.

4. Bring a presentable copy of your resume, cover letter (easy on the eyes please- click here ) certificates and credentials (optional) in a black binder arranged in chronological order – keep this record aside if they ask for it, show it. (it can give you an edge compare to other applicant – remember you need to stand out!)

5. Ask for who you are there to see and the position for which you are being interviewed.

6. Provide a firm handshake and a friendly smile when introducing your self.

7. Begin by saying “How are you today?”

8. Listen carefully to the question before you answer.

9. Maintain eye contact and speak clearly. (They might sense you are nervous, so what? just do it!)

10.Do not chew gum. (and you’re out!)

11. State the job you’re applying for and mention how you heard about the opening.

12. Indicate how you meet the job requirements listed in the job ad/posting.

13. Tell them what you can offer as an asset to the company/hospital/clinic etc.

14. (Tip) to keep you relax through out the interview process – think of them as one of your “friend”. Make it casual as much as possible but not too casual. Add some humour when appropriate.
15. Provide the status or positions you have held ex. full-time, part-time, contract etc.

16. Be available when someone calls you for more info. If you are going away indicate when you will be back, or where you can be reached.

17. Remember to thank the interviewer(s).

Day After the Job Interview

Watch out for emails and voice mail (phone).
Wait (Patience is a virtue!)

Nice work! It’s about time someone from our profession speaks out and do something about the dilemmas and concerns for IEN's here in Canada.
(Haninaduds, Canada)

Valuable knowledge & forums. Very good for students
and even professionals.
(Renee, USA)

Hi... I really like ur site very much. Its the first of it's kind
that I have seen, dedicated solely to nurses and nursing profession. I am from Nepal, a small country in South East Asia. I am a
student nurse awaiting results
of final year of 4 years(BSN). Some of the experiences
that you shared seemed like our own and really touched my heart. I am happy that if I need some guidance, I can contact you, and am sure I'll get positive response. Your site is a blessing to all nurses (and others as well).
Keep up your good work!
(Elisha, Nepal)

These are great nursing prayers.
