Need your advise ...
March 9, 2009
After reading your story I just can’t help it but my tears suddenly fall, I’m a graduate nurse not yet an RN. I had a boyfriend before he was my inspiration but sad to say he died 3 months left before my graduation. Thank God I was able to pass all my majors and here I am now a graduate nurse. I met a new man he don’t want me working he don’t even want me to take that Nursing licensure exam. I do love him so much he is even twice older than me, I’m 24 now ...I really don’t know what will gonna happen to my future but I do for surely know God is there and he will not leave me. Can you please advise me if I should still take that nursing licensure examination? Lin from Asia

Opportunity to Share...
June 2, 2008
I have been a registered nurse for almost three years already here in my country. Ever since I was a kid, I always dreamt of becoming a nurse and I always imagine myself as a smart woman wearing those crisp, white uniforms with matching cap walking along the hospital alley and taking care of patients. My mom was a frustrated nurse herself, because of lack of money to send her to a nursing school, that’s why she supported my ambition of becoming a dedicated Nurse someday.
I was lucky enough to have parents that can support and send me to a prestigious university to study nursing. And I'm very glad I got accepted in that same university. For four years of my study, I have experienced both happy and stressful moments, but I treasure each and everyday of my student life with the hope of fulfilling my life long dream one day. Then, after four long years I became a Registered Nurse - Finally! and in my own country to serve.
The Nursing population are growing so fast that 80% of us are unemployed after the board exams. Most nurses would go on as volunteers in hospitals just to gain experience. They sacrifice working without even getting paid. That’s why large number of nurses are seeking greener pastures abroad, but the sad part is, working abroad as a Nurse is very challenging. Most employers abroad are asking for hospital experience and most of the nurses are having difficulty getting an experience here, most hospitals does not accept nurses including volunteer nurses due to overstaffing. So, nurses end up working in other fields (call centers etc).
Right now, I am working as a Scandinavian language translator in a foreign company here in my country. I always wanted to work in a hospital but the chances are very small. This month I am going to marry my fiancée and sad to say that after our marriage he will be leaving to the Arab land to work and we will be far from each other again. Eventhough I was not given the opportunity to share my skills and profession as a Nurse in hospitals but still deep inside my heart I am still a Nurse.
Being a Nurse for me is more than just a profession, It is a devotion and commitment. A gift that God has given to us to take care of the sick and to take care of the human body which is God’s temple. Right now, I am still hoping that the problem of unemployed Nurses in our country will be solved in the near future. And thank you Nursing Avenue for giving Nurses the opportunity to share what they feel. Keep up the good work!

Hi... I really like ur site very much. Its the first of it's kind that I have seen, dedicated solely to nurses and nursing profession. I am from Nepal, a small country in South East Asia. I am a student nurse awaiting results of final year of 4 years(BSN). Some of the experiences that you shared seemed like our own and really touched my heart. I am happy that if I need some guidance, I can contact you, and am sure I'll get positive response. Your site is a blessing to all nurses (and others as well). Keep up your good work!
(Elisha, Nepal)
